I work here now

AshleyHi – I’m Ashley. I’m kind of new here, but so is everything else, so that kind of works out okay.

I’ve just been appointed as artist liaison for More Canals. This is my first week. I’m going to be getting in touch with musicians, bands and DJs from around the area and seeing what we can do to help make their web and social media strategies really work.

If you want to get in touch to find out more, drop me a note: ashley@morecanals.com – and I’ll talk to you soon.

In the meantime, what we really need around here is a decent coffee machine. Priorities…

Lies like these

No money for a music video? Grab a digital camera and an mp3 player. Shoot in one take, sync them up in iMovie – and within an hour of first thinking of it (at midnight in a kebab shop after a few beers) – you have yourself a promo clip.

Unconvention Salford

I attended Unconvention in Salford – a grassroots, DIY music industry conference that is increasing in popularity and importance. It was a great place to meet some of the best people in the independent music sector, hear some great bands and – of course – it was where we launched More Canals.

Steve Lawson shot this quick video in which I talk about some of the things I thought were cool about Unconvention.

Open for business

Nine o’clock, Monday morning, 1st of June. We’ve put the coffee on, rolled up our sleeves, and opened the doors for the very first time.

Jim, Craig and Andrew (that’s me) are the proprietors of More Canals. We’re an online music promotion & branding company based in Birmingham – a city with more miles of canal than Venice. True fact.

We work primarily with independent artists. We help those artists find and grow their audiences, and we help brands connect with those artists in order to reach those audiences.

Launching More Canals at Un-Convention

One of the best things that independent musicians can do is team up and network with their peers. This is not a competition. We’re all in the same boat here.

Next Thursday to Saturday in Manchester (4-6 June), the independent music industries are coming together for Un-Convention, and More Canals will be officially launching at the event. We’d love to see you there.

What is Un-Convention?
Un-Convention is a music conference aimed specifically at the grass roots of the industry. The goal is to bring together like minded individuals to discuss the future of Independent music.

From DIY labels, and self releasing bands, to promoters and agents, entrepreneurs and innovators, Un-convention is looking to the future of music, and how it will develop and flourish in the technological age.
